"Every great film should seem new every time you see it." ~Roger Ebert
Welcome to Film Club
WHERE: Film Club meets every Thursday after school in room 112.
SYNOPSIS: The Lost Picture Show is an organization for students interested in film, specifically, non-mainstream film. Students will meet weekly to discuss current and older films (spanning multiple genres) in terms of artistry, impact, and appreciation; decide which films to show; put together background information and forum questions on that film; plan future film club events. Meetings are always open to new members.
THE MISSION: The Lost Picture Show hopes to expose students who are serious about film appreciation (and some that are not) to films not typically caught in the public’s eye. These films will be viewed not only for their entertainment value, but also for their thematic and artistic qualities. In this way, analysis of one of the most popular vehicles for passive stimulation (film) becomes a more active endeavor for students. Broadening perspectives and awakening the senses socially and scholastically, then, is the goal of this club.
PRODUCTION DATES: The executive board for the club will meet _____________ from _______ to ________. Films will be shown on __________ at _________ in the Little Theater. Other activities’ dates will be determined (film festivals, fundraisers, field trips).
THE PLAYERS: The expectations for any member of The Lost Picture Show or any executive board officer are fairly simple. An appreciation for all films is essential. The potential diversity of the club will be reflected in its board members. The board will take suggestions from all members and decide which films to show. These films will not be limited to the same style, director, actors, genre, etc.
Virtually anyone can join the film club and attend viewings. As some of the films are intended for mature audiences, the viewing audience will be asked to sign the “film log,” thereby acknowledging their awareness of the subject matter about to be presented (a disclaimer will be read before all film showings). Members who wish to join the executive board will need to submit an informal application essay including the following information:
